Yes you can I got a train from Czech to Vienna. I stayed in City Inn in Prague and it was reasonable and clean and central. The tickets were cheap if I remember correctly. From Vienna to Czech around 5 hours I think.
Its a daily train from Warsaw to Prague and also from Prague to Vienna, You can check schedules from this very nice website:
Unfortunately you cannot book online but dosent matter.
About accommodation i can recoomend you:
About the cost of the ticket i travel from Krakow to Prague before 1 month and i paid about 170Zl = 45 EUR = 32 Pounds, it will be almost the same from Warsaw to Prague
Good enjoy to your travel
The approxiamtely time from Warsaw to Prague is 9 hours, the train start 9.10 from Warsaw and arrive in Prague 18.00
Train ticket to Vienna from Prague is around 40 EUR. You can easily buy at the train station in Prague.
From Warshaw I suggest you take the train down to Krakow, spent some time in Krakow and then hop on the night train to Prague. You can easily buy the tickets in Warshaw.
Seat61.com has some info on buying tickets in advance, if you want to play it safe and don’t mind the higher price. But I personally would buy in Poland/Czech Republic.
has the best schedule search engine, will give you approx. prices for train tickets. (Note that night trains have special prices.)
Look for accommodation in Prague through, all kinds of accommodation available. I would recommend staying in the Small Quarter area of the city, in Czech it’s ‘Mala Strana’.
You don’t need to book your ticket from England, just go and buy it in the station of the city you’re in the day before you travel, and get them to go through the journey with you, in case you need to change trains anywhere. I think Warsaw to Prague might take the longest. Once you’ve reached the railway station in Prague, just follow the instruction given on the website to get your accommodation.
I think trains are better, as the way is quite long from Warszaw to Prague – about 9–10 hours on trai (good to go through night). The departures of direct trains:=-1&to=1&to=0&to=6192&tol=-1&date=23.4.2008&time=18:06&dateall=1&isdep=1&link=95A6
Departures of direct trains from Prague to Vienna (takes about 4 hours):=-1&to=1&to=0&to=8838&tol=-1&date=23.4.2008&time=18:06&dateall=1&isdep=1&link=95A6
It’s not necessary to buy the tickets in advance from England, you get them on the railway station. (If you want to be sure, get them one day before you leave.)
The prices should be 20–50€ for each ticket, depending on which train you choose, whether you want a bed etc.
I think one week is OK, especially if you take night train from Warszaw. I would spend more time in Vienna and Prague than in Warszaw if you’re in history, as Warszaw was heavily destroyed by nazis during WW2 and almost nothing left from the historical center (although they have built exact copies of the houses).
If you don’t want to give away a lot of money, something like hotel Bily Lev is fine – it’s close to the center, good and not expensive. If you want something really really coll for more money Hotel Waldstein near the Prague Castle is great:
I stayed in a hostel which is big and clean -> TYN hostel , at the Old Town Square. I stayed there for 3 days, and took a train to Vienna. For Vienna, it’s nice to catch an opera at the Opera State House; I was there for another 3 days and went to Schonbrunn Palace, Danube river.. my travel blog->
