There is a list of great cheap travel sites at One site compares all the airlines for the best fare. I don’t know anything about Aushwitz, but if there is a fee, I doubt it would be very expensive.
i have been and it is an incredible experience. you should stay in krakow which is a very lively city with a good airport and not too far away. when i went, it was as a tour from krakow and everything was included in the cost. we got a tour from the folks at auschwitz, and of course birkenau is included too. auschwitz is impressive b/c it has been preserved. birkenau was partially destroyed when the nazis were fleeing. both sites are terrible reminders of what took place but incredible pieces of history. it will definitely be a moving (and learning) experience for you.
as for where to book your trip, i used for a hotel/flight package from boston and got a great deal. good luck!
