They were probably hiding from the nazis
that was during the time germany took them over, so many of them were in concentration camps with the jews or fighting for germany.

oo boy. People had REALLY hard times in POland during WWII. Not only were they hiding from Nazi’s and trying not to get killed/sent to concentration camps, but AFTER the war they had to deal with Russia invading and turing POnland into a communist country
