people like you make this world a much better place to be!! But to answer your question, you shouldn’t just put the money in a card because people will most definitely take it. If it’s not the post office that takes it, then the mail carier will probably. Do they have any wire transfer places or anything there? If you have to end up sending it that way, i would suggest that you go ahead and exchange them for the euro, and then send them in a box. It will definitely cost you more to send them but it should not be a lot. Plus if you send them in a box, no one can see inside and they wont be able to feel the money in the envelope. just make sure and put like some bubble wrap or something so that you cant hear the card and money banging around in the box. Plus you might make it really nice by sending him some american sweets or cookies… Thank you for being a sweetheart… we need more people like you !
Never send cash in the post!.. In some europen countries parcels and cards are opened up for checks..There posting service is behind western standards… If you need to send cash then you use your local bank to send into another country but will need all his personal details which not always easy.. other wise there is western union or moneygram which is easy,quick and safe to use and most places around the world..( A fee is needed for this to send money normally ) Check and read the links for more info on how to use it… you can all you need to know and where to go on the homepages..Hope this helps..

i know maybe people that posted money in letter greeting cards etc.. and they were gone

Why would you send him euros anyway? They are not used in Poland. Polish zloty would be of practical use to him.
