blame it on gremlins
poland is just stupid and ghetto for making you deplane using a stairs car and going onto a bus. Its better in the UK where they have terminals that airplanes actually can pull up to so you can deplane in a terminal….
A lot of it depends on the airport infrastructure. It really is safer not to walk around between plane and terminal. There is a lot of traffic from refueling trucks, baggage trucks, etc and it would be pretty easy to have a collision if the passenger and the truck driver weren’t paying close attention. But sometimes there is not enough room for the busses, trucks, and planes to all be in the same place. Even if it looks like there is enough space, there might not be— planes need a lot of room for turning and pushback, especially at low speed, and the jetway/parking areas may not be far enough apart to have two planes moving at the same time AND a bus there too. At Long Beach, CA airport, you walk off the plane onto the tarmac and into the terminal– no busses— but there are very specific paths you must take and ground crew assigned to keep you from walking off the path.
There are other hazards besides getting run into by a refueling truck. Fuel spills can be slippery; jet fuel fumes are pretty hazardous to some folks; debris, stuff from dropped luggage, etc can all be things you can trip on. Kids can get over-excited and run off from their parents. Most of the accidents would probably be the minor-injury type. But it really is safer when possible to keep all the passengers in a bus that the ground crew can have control over. It just isn’t physically possible to do so at every airport.
