no visa needed, only a passport.
check easyjet/ryanair/bmi airlines for cheap flights. if you book in advance(say 1 month or so) then the flights can be very cheap(£30 return).
i would not suggest going by train as it will take a long time and will actually be quite expensive. if you must then look into buying a euro rail pass which is valid in europe countries for a certain time eg. month
